"The Community must assume full responsibility for providing its residents with a community environment that is conducive to positive character and personal behavior by meeting the needs of all of its residents, especially their employment needs in order to reduce crime in the community."

COMMUNITY MEDIA (A COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER)
FIGURE 1

Presently Oakland's Black community is without a key source of Community Media. We hope for Television, Radio and other media capability in the future. However, the Kinte Center proposed the publication of a Weekly Community newspaper called THE CITYEAST NEWS (click on Figure 1). The newspaper would tap into a source used by successful communities for citywide news of interest and a community media committee would provide coverage specific to the community. This newspaper could advocate everything that is positive for the community to include promoting a much-needed sense of community pride. The community newspaper would be another source of advertising for the community's merchants.
